Why We Recommend Quartz
Quartz countertops have become the ultimate in beauty and performance. These man-made solid surfaces are less maintenance than natural stone and stand up better to everyday kitchen wear and tear.
Quartz is a mixture of natural quartz stone and resin manufactured to your exact template. It comes in a variety of colours and textures to suit any style, from marble-look veining to solid neutrals.
Every countertop we install is precision-templated on site after your cabinets are in place. This ensures a perfect fit with clean seams and the edge profile you chose. No guesswork, no gaps.

Dekton: The Premium Choice
For homeowners who want the absolute best, we recommend Dekton by Cosentino. Dekton is an ultra-compact surface made using Sinterized Particle Technology, which subjects a blend of porcelain, glass, and quartz minerals to 25,000 tons of pressure and extreme heat. The result is a surface with zero porosity and performance that exceeds both quartz and granite.
Where quartz contains resin binders that can scorch under a hot pan, Dekton handles direct heat without damage. It is completely UV stable, so it will not fade near windows or on outdoor kitchens. It never needs sealing, resists scratches better than quartz, and is certified carbon neutral across its entire lifecycle. Cosentino backs every slab with a 25-year warranty.
Dekton is available in thicknesses from 4mm (backsplashes and cladding) to 30mm (heavy-duty surfaces), with slabs large enough to minimize seams on even the longest islands. We treat Dekton as the premium tier in our countertop offering. If your kitchen is central to your home and you want a surface that will outlast everything around it, this is it.

Most kitchens. The best balance of beauty, durability, and price.
Granite

Homeowners who want a one-of-a-kind natural stone surface.

An accent surface or island top paired with a more durable primary countertop.
Countertop Care by Material
Every surface has different care requirements. Here is what to know for each material we install.
Dekton
- Daily cleaning - Warm water and any household cleaner. Dekton is chemically resistant and will not react to bleach, oven cleaners, or solvents.
- Heat - Place hot pots and pans directly on the surface. Dekton handles extreme heat without scorching or cracking.
- No sealing, ever - Zero porosity means nothing penetrates the surface. No annual maintenance required.
- Sunlight - UV stable. Colours will not fade near windows or on outdoor installations.
Quartz
- Daily cleaning - Warm water and mild soap. No special cleaners needed.
- Heat - Always use trivets for hot pots and pans. Quartz can handle warmth but direct heat from a stovetop pan can damage the resin.
- Stains - Wipe up spills promptly. Quartz resists stains but prolonged contact with strong dyes (turmeric, wine) can leave marks.
- Cutting - Use a cutting board. Quartz will not stain from a knife, but the blade will dull against the surface.
- No sealing - Unlike granite, quartz never needs to be sealed. It is nonporous out of the box.
Granite
- Sealing - Granite needs to be sealed once a year. A simple wipe-on sealer protects against stains and moisture absorption.
- Heat - Granite handles heat well. You can place hot pans on it without damage, though we still recommend trivets as a habit.
- Daily cleaning - Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner or mild soap. Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon) which can etch the surface over time.
- Stains - Unsealed or under-sealed granite can absorb oils and liquids. Wipe spills quickly, especially red wine, cooking oil, and citrus.
Butcher Block
- Oiling - Apply food-safe mineral oil monthly (more often in the first year). This keeps the wood hydrated and prevents cracking.
- Water - Wipe up standing water immediately. Butcher block is not waterproof and will warp or stain if left wet.
- Scratches - Light scratches add character, but deep cuts can be sanded out and re-oiled. This is the only countertop surface you can refinish at home.
- Best use - We recommend butcher block as an island top or prep surface paired with a more durable primary countertop like quartz or Dekton.
