A Modern Traditional Kitchen Renovation in Warm Grey

Shaker cabinets in warm greys, curved mullion glass, and Dekton are in. Honey oak and black quartz are out.

In Spring 2026, we took the kitchen down to the subfloor and rebuilt it around new cabinets, a larger pantry, and Dekton Soke countertops, the counters that tied the project together and anchored the design.

This project was completed in Allensville, before Dyson Contracting moved to North Bay in 2026.

How did the Soke Kitchen come together?

Demolition took the room back to the subfloor. The cabinets, pantry, countertop, backsplash, and the old 12 inch tile through the kitchen and hallway all came out. With the floor open, we screwed the subfloor down to quiet a few old squeaks, levelled out the low spots, and laid a Prova uncoupling membrane so the new 24 inch porcelain would sit flat.

The cabinets are Laurysen, painted in two Benjamin Moore colours: Coventry Gray on the lowers, and the lighter Silver Satin on the uppers and the new, larger pantry, which now holds a built-in microwave tower. The glass-front uppers with their curved mullions are the detail that sets the room apart. Inside the base cabinets, a two-tier corner pull-out and a trash pull-out put the awkward spaces to work.

Once the cabinets were set, the Dekton Soke countertops were templated and installed, followed by the Maiolica White subway tile backsplash, a single-bowl sink with a Moen touch faucet, LED under-cabinet lighting, and a new crystal light fixture. The existing appliances went back in, and the baseboard and trim were reinstalled with new transitions where the tile meets the rest of the house.

What is Dekton Soke?

Dekton is an ultra-compact surface made by Cosentino. Soke is a warm grey with subtle veining that reads almost like concrete. It resists heat, scratches, and UV, which makes it a practical choice beside a range and under a sunny window.
